It was a cold, snowy day at Plumbfield. It was only 4 days till Christmas and all the children were excited, not just because of the holiday but also because they did not have any school work. But there were two unhappy people at Plumbfield and they were Nan and Dan. Nan had been happy her father had said he would come but at the last minuet had canceled, and Dan had no family. Later that night Dan heard a soft whimper coming from Nan's room, and she was all alone since Bess was with her parents. He quietly crept into her room. She was curled up on the bed in a ball. He ran over to make sure she was all right. When he got over there he knew she was not all right. He got closer and gave her a hug. It shocked her at first but then she knew who it was. She sat up and looked at him.

Nan: "What are you doing in here?"

Dan: "I heard you crying. What's wrong?"

She then told him how her father had canceled on her.

Dan: "I'm sorry". It was simple but all he had to say.

Nan: "Thank you". It meant so much to her to know that some one cared.

Christmas Eve

Everyone was singing as Nat played his violin. The song end everyone clapped and told Nat what a great job he had done. Ever since that night, Nan and Dan had become closer and Mrs. Jo noticed this. As did Bess, so she came up with a plan. That night after every one had gone to bed she got up and put up mistletoe in every doorway. Some way they would have to kiss. Little did she know while she was putting up mistletoe Dan had come into their room.

Dan: "Nan?"

Nan: "Dan? What are you doing in here?"

Dan: "I had to tell you something."

Nan: "What?"

Dan: "I, uh, I really like you" Nick had helped him with his courage.

Nan: "You do?! I like you too." Mrs. Jo had helped her.

They heard Bess finishing up downstairs, so he gave her a quick kiss and left.

Christmas Morning

All the children were up earlier than usual. They all ran down to the parlor. They all got to open one present before they ate. Nan opened Dan's, and it was a gold locket.

Nan: "Oh Dan, I love it!"

Dan: "I thought you would like it."

They sat there for a minuet staring at each other when all of the sudden they heard several people say at the same time.

Rob, Emil, and Tommy: "Kiss her already."

They looked at each other, and then kissed.
